Thanks to a new type of lens design, it has been possible to avoid the optical distortion that typically occurs with ultra wide-angle lenses; digital correction is therefore unnecessary. This feature contributes to the high resolution performance of the lens down to the corners of the image. The optical setup consists of 10 elements in 7 groups, including 2 aspherical lenses and 3 extra low dispersion ED lenses. The edges of the seven aperture lamellas are rounded to ensure the highest image quality. The lens is equipped with a distance and depth of field scale, which makes it possible to pre-focus, for example. With an initial light intensity of F2.8, the lens is also suitable for shooting in low light conditions. The short shooting distance of only 18 cm makes it possible to blur the background in aesthetic blur, without losing the perspective characteristics of an ultra wide-angle lens. The FUJIFILM X bayonet’s low contact area effectively prevents edge shadowing in the image corners. Typical image errors such as distortion and chromatic aberrations are minimized. This guarantees high resolution down to the corners of the image.
