- Practice not allowing any unnatural drag from the leader to affect the fly – you want your fly to ride the current naturally as a live insect would – just give them an occasional realistic twitch to imitate a grasshopper caught in the current.
- You can also splash them against undercut banks or river edges where hoppers naturally land in the water during the heat of summer.
- These high floating foam body hoppers are also excellent strike indicator flies – try using a small bead head Copper John or other bead head nymph tied 2-3 feet below the hopper.
